Ortigia and the other side of Siracusa
World heritage site and
a heritage for its tourists
Itineraries
six days in Syracuse
The perfect itinerary to get the most of it without missing (almost) anything .
Island of Ortigia is the oldest part of the city of Syracuse. Its name comes from the old "ortyx" greek which means quail. It is the heart of the city, the first to be inhabited in antiquity, thanks to its geographical position and the presence of water and sources.
As the whole of Sicily Ortigia is also testimony of past centuries and populations that have occurred. Its territory tells of an ancient history that saw the arrival of the Greeks followed by the Romans, by the Swabians, Aragonese and by the Arabs.
Wandering around Syracuse means going over the pure history of a town that boasted, not only in the artistic scene, its own beauty and majesty, throughout historical circumstances that regarded it as a key player.
There are so many remarkable things to see that you would never get enough time for that. Therefore, it would be too simplistic not to spend at least a couple of days to enjoy amazing and unique places that you can only find in this part of Sicily.
